Community Home Partners Receives Funding To Demolish and Replace Lincoln Homes

8/16/2019

Community Home Partners CEO Susan Anderson announced today that the non-profit received the funding required to demolish and replace Lincoln Homes. Lincoln Homes was constructed in 1953 on 2.29 acres located at 9th and 5th Avenue. The sixty-six-year-old development includes thirty-seven, three and four-bedroom units in six buildings. “The redevelopment of Lincoln Homes has been an important goal for us for a long time. It will be a wonderful improvement for the neighborhood and add much-needed quality homes for the families living there,” said Ms. Anderson.

The Lincoln Homes redevelopment will provide a more neighborhood-friendly arrangement and enhance the walkability of the neighborhood furthering the positive momentum that previous redevelopment efforts have created in the west-end community. According to Mr. Vern Winter, Chairman of the Rock Island Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, “the demolition and redevelopment of Lincoln Homes will have a huge positive impact on the revitalization efforts of the New Old Chicago neighborhood and is a significant step toward Community Home Partners realizing its vision to provide quality housing to the citizens of Rock Island.”

The new neighborhood includes the construction of forty-six duplex and single-family homes for rent. The one and two-story homes feature 1, 2, 3, and 4-bedrooms, granite countertops, energy star stainless appliances, washer and dryer, luxury vinyl plank floors and window treatments.  The new development will incorporate environmental and engineering components to achieve a Green Certification.

Lincoln Homes is in the community heart of the New Old Chicago neighborhood; adjacent to community anchors including the Martin Luther King Community Center, a community park, Second Baptist Church, Douglas Park Place and the New Old Chicago Redevelopment Subdivision. The new neighborhood is intended to attract and retain working families to the community while offering a right-of-return to Lincoln Homes residents recently relocated as part of the redevelopment effort. The new development represents an $13 million investment in the community and compliments previous New Old Chicago investment creating a highly visible perception of continued improvement to the area. The redevelopment effort is being managed by Community Home Partners. Lincoln Homes is scheduled for demolition later this fall with construction beginning early 2020. The redevelopment will take up to twenty-four months to complete.
